Are you a big fan of Twitter? Do you like to add a group-messaging system in your blog? WordPress can help you with that. Just install P2 WordPress theme. And it will transform traditional blogging to a multi-user conversation system automatically. Look at the demo blog. It almost looks like a Twitter update page. I would rather say a Twitter without a dashboard because you seldom have to go there. Almost everything can be maintained from front page. You can post updates or reply directly from front page. Even there is option for inline editing for posts & comments.
The front page shows threaded comments to give the Twitter like look. There is a tidy feature about it. You can show or hide comments just by clicking a button to keep it clean. To interact better you will get real-time notification when a update or comment is posted.
You can find everything you need to collaborate with your fellow users. It can be quite useful to share updates among members of a project or a class community. Or you can use it as a support forum for your site. It is quite small in size & super fast to load. I like minimalist templates & it is just like that.
I am talking about a very popular theme. It’s UDB Moneymaker theme. Perhaps you have seen it in other blogs if not yours as thousands of bloggers use it. It’s a great theme no doubt. But do you know one thing? You can remove the credit link from the footer if you wish. Most of us don’t like to show it. Here is what it says in Usage Agreement:
This theme is free to download and use on as many sites as you would like. That being said, we would sincerely appreciate if you left the credits in the footer. Thank you. We hope you enjoy the theme!
So you can see it is not mandatory to keep it there. If you haven’t had a look at the theme before, here is a screenshot:
And check the theme. It has some great features. But there are two disadvantages that I have found. It is quite common. Even if you remove the link, most people will still know that it’s a free theme. Secondly, it is compatible with WordPress 2.7 but at the same time hasn’t been updated to show reply & threaded comment features of 2.7.
By the way, I don’t mind giving away a credit link. As you can see now, I am using a free theme & quite happy with it.
iNove had all the potential of great WordPress theme. But there was only flaw that I found. It made the comments dofollow by default & most of the users didn’t know it as there was no explicit manual about it. But it seems that the creator has rectified it in the latest release 1.2.3. Now the comments that you make are nofollow as they should be by default.
The dofollow lovers can argue what is so bad if it is dofollow by default. I have nothing against dofollow. But there are more than a few plugins that you can use to control your comments as dofollow quite flexibly. So there is no point for the themes to change what is default, especially without notifying the users.
