WinSCP Alternative for Ubuntu

I don’t use Ubuntu nowadays. I have always been a big fan of Windows. Perhaps I have always used Windows and got habituated with it, that’s why. But anyways, when I started using Ubuntu for development, I was missing WinSCP most. I needed to transfer files between my computer and web server frequently. And I hate typing long paths to use SCP command from the console.

You may ask why I didn’t use WINE and then I could have used WinSCP. That I did eventually. It worked for me but sometimes it used to get hang.

So if you are looking for a Linux based application, use SECPanel. It is a GUI utility for connecting to server using SSH or SCP. It doesn’t have  all the advanced features of  WinSCP. But you can easily copy your files between your local machine and web server using your mouse only. A cool software that can help idle guys like you and me :)

Just a curious question… Why don’t you try FireFTP(a free extension in Firefox). I find it much better than any paid FTP software. It will never hang and very smooth transfer. You can use Firefox & its extension on both Windows & Linux.

I have just checked the add-on. It looks quite cool.
But it doesn’t support SCP, so I can’t say that it is an alternative to WINSCP.
But really that’s a handy tool for using FTP with GUI interface :)

Found about it on the net just now while trying to search for WinSCP like thing for ubuntu:
In Ubuntu, go to Places-> Connect to Server -> then login with host, username, password-> get a normal file-browser-like-setup to transfer/create/modify/delete etc. on the server.. perhaps much better than WinSCP
