@Stuart Google Sites have scripting limitations. You can't use PHP there. I have used quite a few free hosting in my early days. And only Freehostia stood out in reliability & flexibility to host a standard site. Obviously there is some limitations. But that have to be there to continue as a free hosting. If you want something rather simple, static you can surely go with Google.
